Second Life

In 2007 I discovered Second Life. This is where I have spent most of my time. It was my first chat program ever and one with so much more than just chat.

When I first joined, I was told about opensim and how everything was opening up for people to go and explore, however I was so new to second life that I was unable to understand what opensim was all about, I stayed there for 8 years.

I made friends quickly in world and they taught me many things like how to build and how to use features on my viewer. It was interesting.  They also taught me other things, like how to handle myself, be a lady, how to dress and shop for quality. It was there to have, so why not.

One day there were three of us in a building all talking in voice, that was eye opening and a great feeling. One girl was from America, the other from England and myself from Australia.

I had ventured into different scenes over the years and came out the lady I first went in. Oh, and wiser.

For the last several years of being in second life I was role playing so my avatar became my character and I lived firstly in a dark Victorian era sim and sold flowers in the square. Considering I never wrote a story at school nor could hardly read, I've come along way. I learned how to use weapons and fight, not that I was any good but won sometimes. Winning isn't always easy when you are not a strong type of character I must say. Certainly takes you out of your comfort zone. Sometimes a gentle manner can melt the hardest, if not make them atleast curious to see where it was going.

The last place I played was medieval and the rules were easier to abide by. So many different characters and creatures. I myself always play human since that is what I understand most and anything else I would have to read and study which would take me away from being in world and doing what I loved to do.

Role playing full time can be tiring. A few years passed and things changed as people learned more and things improved, so I tried to make myself a mesh avatar. This sent me on a mission to find somewhere to upload the mesh for free and I found Osgrid. What a wonderful discovery that was.

My next post will be my time in Osgrid.
